As Reverb Turns...

Hello again, Projectiles, Reverberations, Friends of, Family of, Fans of . . . and just . . . lurkers (we love you too)!

I am happy to report that the Spring Semester of Reverb has kicked off – and it's time to get pumped! New members & new music = new fun! I would like to stress (again) how exciting it is to have had so many new people join our organization recently. And, because I'm the membership coordinator (ie: the person who gets all the incoming inquiries about joining) . . . I can tell you . . . the emails are still coming in! EQUALS GOOD.

If you've missed episodes of “As Reverb Turns” - here's the recap:

For the beginning of the first rehearsal, Reverb Camo & Reverb Plaid met together to work on a combined group number, which they will record together. (For a little background info – in the past during the summer there have been 2 groups, and usually the groups would come together for a combined number or two. It's a great way to ensure that both groups get a chance to mingle, socialize & work together.) Since this is the first time we've had 2 Reverb groups, we thought it would be a great idea to continue this process – especially so that all the newer members could get to know everyone. Warm ups were run by Kristen Laidig. The use of the word “bacon” was overruled as a “syllable” for a warm-up (that's two syllables, for those who are counting, which, apparently, not everyone was!). After everyone was sufficiently warm . . . Greg Heleniak took over to start teaching the combined number, a song by Aslyn. Everyone sounded great & the Semester was off!

The groups then separated to start working on their group repertoires. Camo is currently working on songs by Jimmy Eat World, The Beatles, Robbie Williams, Neon Trees and a Jason Mraz/Paula Abdul mash-up. Plaid is working on songs by Temper Trap, Ben Folds, Johnny Most and Cee-Lo Green (oh, yes, yes we are.)

Plaid flew through most of Cee-Lo's song (title not really postable) – mainly because it was so darn fun. Camo, I hear, has invented a new way of teaching music on the xylophone, using knuckles (in the absence of mallets). Folks, I can't make stuff like this up. If you're missing this action, are you jealous yet? And do you want in? You know you do.

The second rehearsal contained much of the same amount of fun balanced with work – and both groups are coming along nicely. One would think that singers, having to follow rhythm would have some sense of counting – but apparently, the 1, 1-2-1, 1-2-3-2-1 warm-up exercise has thrown both groups for a loop. Just wait until the end of the semester. We're all going to be so good at counting we may record THAT warm-up exercise as well!

Well, that's the summary/recap of As Reverb Turns. Stay tuned for next week's episode!

In another news . . .

Summer planning is underway! We're already hard at work, building another great summer o'fun for everyone. Get excited. And that's an order!
